Research Interests

I work in feminist philosophy, social and political philosophy, and 20th century European philosophy, though I am always trying to learn more about other philosophical traditions.  The primary philosophical questions I am interested in revolve around the development of the self as both an identity and an active part of the world, and how selves relate to each other.

Feminist Epistemology

Applied Phenomenology

Theories of Sex and Gender

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Academic Philosophy:  I have been a member of Durham Philosophy Department’s Diversity and Inclusion Group (DIG) for four years. As a part of this group I was involved in running a climate survey for postgraduate students and reporting on the results, which was then used as a template for a later staff survey.  I was a postgraduate representative for the department’s Athen Swan self-assessment team.

Over the past threee years I have taught on undergraduate modules in ethics, epistemology, philosophy of mind and reading classic philosophical texts.

Academic freedom and responsibilities: I am very interested in questions of pedagogy within Philosophy and HE, and the roles of academics within (or outside) of that.
